Car Pulling to One Side

Several issues can go wrong with a car while you are driving. One common problem is the car pulling to one side. This is an indication that something is wrong, but the problem is oftentimes fixable. Normally, people assume their car needs an alignment; however, there are other reasons why this might happen. The problem could lie in your brakes, uneven wear on your tires or tire pressure. In reality though, most often, it is a Camber misalignment why this problem occurs:

Camber Misalignment

If there is too much camber on one side of a vehicle it will pull towards that side, this can happen because of weak springs, bent spindle, bent strut or other faults with the undercarriage. There are other reasons that can cause a vehicle to pull to one side:

  • Brake problems- if the car is pulling to one side it may be because the brakes are misadjusted or the brake drums are weak. This problem can also occur if the left brakes are dragging. The brake hose can also be a problem if it becomes clogged because when this happens it prevents an equal amount of fluid to reach both tires.
  • Uneven wear- this is another reason for the car pulling to one side. If the left front tire has worn out threads; there can be a slight pull in that direction.
  • Tire pressure – this is one of the simplest reasons for the car pulling to one side. If the tire pressure is incorrect, especially if it is underinflated you will feel a slight drift.
  • Suspension – the strut rod brushing can become damaged and when this occurs the control arm shifts. Also, if the suspension bushing becomes worn or cracked it cannot properly hold the suspension parts in place.

It is a very uncomfortable feeling to drive a car that continually pulls to one side and truthfully, it can be quite dangerous. The reasons mentioned above are the most common and most people are familiar with these issues and can safely address them.
